This Gazette contains the resignations of Messrs. P. Heyes and J. P. Dugdale, ValuerrGeneral-. and Inspecting Valuer respectively. The resignations take effect as from June 30. Tho Government |jas also accepted the resignation of Mr. Join Fraser as a District Valuer. Word has been received of the death at Dunedin of Captain Goldie, father of Mr. G. Goldie, of this citjy Captain Goldie, who was 78 years of age, was wellknown in connection with "the lighter service between Port'Chalmers and Dun-' edin, in the old days before the big steamers were able to thread the Victoria Channel to the upper harbour,. and was , for. some time deputy-harbourmaster at Port Chalmers. 'He was also a good shot, and when connected as an officer with the Port Chalmers Navals won the Carbine Belt at one of the meetings. . , The death occurred on Wednesday of Mr. George Henry Russell, father, of the present Mayor of Greyniouth. Deceased, who was 58 years of age, leaves two bous and a daughter (Mrs. Jackson). Mr. Hugh Ward and Miss Grace Palotta, and the members of the clever comedy company headed by those players, passed through Wellington yesterday, bound for the north. The company opens in Wellington in "The Girl from Hector's,"- on August 1. Mr. C. W. Jones, manager of tho Hud-dart-Parker Company, is returning to Wellington this morning by tho Ulimaroa from Lyttelton. Brigadier Albiston, of the Salvation Army,i is leaving for Australia this evening, by the Ulimaroa. On Tuesday, at Napier, the death took place of Mrs. Dodd, wife of Mr. F. H. Dodd, officer in' charge of the Napier Electric Telegraph Office. The deceased lady, who' was a native of Blenheim, had for some time past been in poor health. About a fortnight ago she had to take to her hod, and the end came peacefully.' During her residence in Napier tho la'to Mrs. Dodd had made a number of friends, who will extend their sympathy to her husband and familyT Mr. Geo. Thompson, of TnE Dominion mechanical department, who is joining the staff of the "Otago Daily Times," was on .Wednesday evening tho recipient of a silver-mounted inkstand and fountain pen from his fellow-workers. On the same evening, Mr. A. Ridding, also of The Dominion mechanical staff, was presented with a handsome pipo, on the occasion of his leaving to join, tho "Evening Post" staff. The presentations were made by tho head of tho mechanical department, Mr. W. W. Todd.
