LONDON WOOL SALES.
PRICES UNCHANGED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. London, July 12. The wool sales have opened with remarkably brisk competition. Prices for merinos and greasy crossbreds are practically unchanged. UNEXPECTED FIRMNESS. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright. (Rec. July 13, 9.5 p.m.) London, ,Tu!v 13. At the wool sales 7605 bales were offered, including 5350 of New Zealand wool. There was a miscellaneous selection, and a large attendance, with keen bidding. The market was unexpectedly firm, though occasional lots of shabby crossbred sold in buyers' favour. Slipes are a halfpenny to a penny per lb. below the closing rates of the May sales. PRIVATE CABLE REPORTS. Messrs. Dalgcty and Company, Limited, report having received the following cable advices from their London house, under date July 13:—"Wool sales: .Attendance of buyers generally is large, and competition .■miniated. The clips offered so far arc mostly crossbreds. Since our 'ast wire merinos and line crossbred wools (greasy), change (if any) is i„ buyers' favour. Merino and fine crossbred wools
(scoured), par to 5 per cent, lower. Crossbred wools, medium and coarse quality (greasy), liar to 5 per cent, lower. Hlipe wools, coarse crossbred, 5 per cent, to 7A per cent, lower.'.' Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., have received the fallowing cable from their London agents, dated July 12:—"Fine crossbreds and merinos unchanged; medium and coarse crossbreds, 5 per cent, down." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following cablegram from its London house, under date July 12.—"There was a good attendance at the opening of the sales to-dny, competition by jiome and Continental buyers being active. The opening catalogues were fairly representative. As compared with last sales' closing rates, prices are about the same for line crossbred and merino, and about par to 5 per cent, lower for medium greasy crossbred, coarse greasy crossbred, and crossbred slipe. America is not operating." Lfessrs. Levin and Co. yesterday morning received the following- cable from their London house:—"Merinos and crossbreds generally opened on a par with last sales' closing rates. Large attendance of buyers. Coarse greasy crossbred occasionally Id. rlieapor. and coarse slipe wool fully id. cheaper." The United Farmers' Co-operative Association, Limited, has received the following cablegram from its London agents, under date July 12-.—"Tho fourth series of wool sales commenced to-day, and were well attended by Home, Continental, and American buyers. Fine crossbreds show no quotable change. Jledinm and coarse crossbreds show a decline of from par to 5 per cent., as compared with closing rates of previous sale." The Bank of New Zealand has received from its London branch the following cable:—"The sales have opened with strong competition and large attendance of buyers. There is an activo demand by Home and foreign buyers. Prices for crossbreds, all kinds, are lower —par to 5 per cent., occasionally. For lambs' wool, all kinds, there is no change. Current prices for North Island farmers' lots, in average condition (Palmerston North style)-Coarso crossbreds, 36-10's quality, 9id. to lOd. per lb.; medium crossbred, 44-56's quality, lid. to H?d. per lb.; fine crossbred, 50's, 13Sd. to M3d. per lb." The Commerce Division of the Department of Agriculture, Commerce, and Tourists, has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, July 12, regarding the opening of the fourth, series of colonial wool sales:— "Wool sales commenced. Good competition. Home and Continental buyers' are buying freely. Trade is good. American buyers are holding ofT. Holders are firm on account, of a, moderate supply; 89,500 bales of New Zealand wool catalogued. Merinos and fine crossbreds, all grades, are selling at about the same as closing rates at last sales. Medium and coarse crossbreds about a farthing lower. Closin" rates for May sales, as cabled by High Commissioner, were as follows:—Superior merinos, Is. Id. to Is. 3Sd.; medium merinos, ICJd. to Is. 0?. d.; inferior merinos <M. to 10d.; fine crossbreds, Is. Ud.-to Is. 4d.; medium crossbreds, lid. to" is. Id • coarse crossbreds, BJd. to IOJd."
