The usual fortnightly meeting of tho Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was held in tlio Chiimbcr of Commerce on Tuesday. .Mr. .las. Jameson presided. A letter was received from a correspondent complaining of tho way cattle are trucked upon the New Zealand Railways. In ojie case, it was stated, some bullocks were kept in the trucks for two nights and days. Tho matter was left in the hands of Air. Seed to rejmrt and take action if necessary. .Mr. S. Carroll., the secretary, reported ihat he had received replies from Auckland, Nelson, and Tiniaru, and eacli centre was in favour of holding a conference at a future date.
