Mr. Rolls was using a biplane in the alighting competition when the accident occurred, lie was making a sudden descent, which caused overpressure on flic back tails and the breaking of the pivots. This rendered the machine powerless, and it fell from a height of 100 ft. at a terrific rate, being reduced to a mass of matchwood and broken steel. Mr. Rolls was extricated as quickly as possible, when it was found that his neck was broken, and the base of tho skull fractured. Thousands witnessed the accident. Dying was abandoned for (he day.
