CITY COUNCIL.
. FIRE BRIGADE'S LEGISLATION. The following notices of motion, by Councillor- T. Bollinger, has been tabled for consideration at the City Council meeting to-raorrow -evening:—
(1) That the following resolution passed at a.meeting of the Wellington City Council, held on February 13, IDOS, be rescinded, viz.:—That application be made to the Governor-in-Council for an order declaring that the fire district of Wellington shall ceaso to bo a fire district.
(2) That the council lake steps under the provisions of tho'Firo Brigades Act, 1908, and its amendments to apply to Hie Governor-m-Conncil declaring the City of Wellington to bo a fire district under the Tiro Brigad.cs Act, 1908, and that the necessary poll of the ratepayers of the city in connection therewith bo taken on some; day to bo appointed.
(3) That the council request the Government to amend Section 3 "of the Fire Brigades Act Amendment Act, 190S, by striking out the following words, "shall be deemed to be carried unless at least one-third of the ratepayers of that district have validly exercised their votes in respect of that proposal," and substitute the following, "shall be deemed to bo carried unless at least two-thirds of the valid votes cast by the ratepayers at the poll are in favour of the proposal."
