A letter was received from Mr. Dickorson, who entered a complaint against a conductor for putting his wife off a workers' car. Tho Mayor staled that the question was: Who had a right to put anyone off a workers' car? Anyone could be a worker except a woman carrying_ a baby after a day's outing. A notification of a subsidy duo to the council on the rates collected for tho year ended June 3D was received from the Valuation Department. The Mayor explained that as the rates had all been collected, the full amount, £204 lis. Id., would he forthcoming. \ On the motion of Councillor Weddc, it was decided to employ outside labour for the purpose of laying concrete blocks at 15s. per chain: It was resolved that the engineer bo instructed to prepare a list of. unformed private streets in the borough with the work required thereon. "

After considerable discussion, a recommendation of. the Works Committoo in regard to the letter of Mr. T. Ward, asking to be allowed to disposo of sections in I'onsonby Road, and also asking the council to take over the said Ponsonby Itoad, was carried. i In regard to the tramway proposals tiie Mayor* stated' that if the tenders were called for delivery in three months the extra expense would bo £2i), but it would save four weeks' waiting, and would bo money saved in the long run. It was resolved' that tenders be called for the delivery of tho necessary plant within three months of the acceptanco of tho same.

Councillor Burn gave notice of motion to rescind a former motion setting up a committee to'inquire into die uue«. lion of a shorter route across Kelburne.

- Councillor Burn said that ho was not in favour of. the shorter route across Kelburne, and seeing that the Government and the City' Council had come- to some arrangement,.regarding Sydney Street, something ought to bo dono in tbat direction.

_ Councillor itaino remarked that councillors seemed to have an idea that this setting up of a committee was aoniuutting the borough to something definite. Ho thouglit that inquiry into llio matter would .not do any harm, and would not saddle them with any resrjonsibilitics. Th;: Mayor pointed out that tnero wcro greater responsibilities in tho motion passed previously than Councillor Itaino had observed.

_ Councillor Hildroth held that it was the' duty of the council- to'.carry' out ivliat.was 'purported to bo the mandate of: tho ratepayers, and that information that such a committee might obtain would be of great benefit. .Ho hold out no hope of the Sydney Street proposalfor tlireo years. • Tho Karori people would bo starving whilo tho population would bo increasing. Councillor Spiers condemned the Kelburne route, and declared the Sydney Street-route more desirable.

Councillor Wedde (the mover cf the previous motion setting up the committeo) said that the result was a foregone conclusion, and he- went on to criticise what he termed "want of backbone" displayed by .the . Karori Council in dealings with tho different, public bodies.

Councillor Burn, in reply, said"'that the Kelburne -scheme would only benefit a select few. and expressed his willingness to debate the matter on . a public platform.

On the motion being put; tho voting was five, all, and tho Mayor gave his casting vote in favour of .rescinding the resolution. .
