Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Prime Minister of Canada, stated in a speech at Fort William' that there would be no general election in,. Canada in 1910. Referring to Imperial matters, Sir Wilfrid Laurier said that Canada was determined to assist the Motherland against-every foe. •It was the intention of the Govemjrient to deepen the Wclland Canal bo tween Lakes Erie and Ontario at an early, date. The canal, which is 26 miles long, has at present a depth of 14 feet. .

The! ultimate construction of the Georgian Bay Ship Canal was foreshadowed. This is to connect Lake Huron' with Montreal, 440 miles 'distent, : at an .. estimated cost of £20,000,000, and'.will shorten the distance toy 'Liverpool by nearly 800 miles. Concluding his speech, Sir Wilfrid jaid :—"I speak with knowledge and authority in saying that King George is a'worthy son of his sire."
