(Bsr Teiegranb.—Special Correspondent.! « INSANITARY MAORI. CAMP. Wanganui, July 12. The Wanganui School Committee has approved of proposals for a referendum on Bible-reading in schools as set forth in a circular issued by the Wellington Householders' League.
For some time past a camp of. Maoris has occupied sonic land at. the Heads belonging to the Castlecliff Railway Company, and, as sometimes happens, when they pitch their tents near civilisation, they have become an insanitary nuisance. Tho Castlecliff Town Board has therefore written to the Castlecliff Railway Company directing their ejection. .
Judge llawson, of the Native Land Court, has arrived here to take up his duties as head of the newly-created Wanganui district.
The Alexandra Mounted Rifles, under Captain Morrison, went into camp today for their annual training. There is an exceptionally large muster, including many recruits who have joined ill anticipation of 'the early, operation of the new defence scheme. i
