GENERAL FARMING NEWS.

The. Annedale herd of Hercfords of Mr. H. -A. Kevins, of Masterton (concerning which an advertisement appears elsewhere) was started by Messrs. Williams and Bcctham nearly thirty years ago, and has been carefully bred ever since. On the adjustment of tho firm, tho herd was taken over by the Annndale Station. Tho cows were originally imported by l£r. Donald 31' Lean to Auckland, and (he "Dulls have been carefully selected from 3lr. James Stiickcy's arid other wellknown studs. It is stated that they have been bred on hilly country, and havo never had any artificial feeding.

ictoria has experienced a most successful year in regard to the staple products of meat and butter. Tho exports of meat have exceeded all previous State records, and the butter exports have br«n larger than in an? past year, except the big season of 1906-7.

At a salo of Ayrshires at Glenhurst Farm, Ontario, Canada, prices ranged \ip to ,Gllß. Tho average for eighty-one head was .£2B 16s. Gd.

Reports indicate that 'the. butter supply is sufficient, in addition to tho quantities in store, to leave little- feai of a shortage beforo the new season's butter begins to come forward.

It seems probable that tho annual dinner of the Palmcrston North branch of tho Now Zealand Farmers' Union will bo-held in an earlier month in tho future than formerly.

"The sheep about Mangaweka are in tho pink of condition, and fanners arcs promised a heavy wool clip," says a correspondent in the "Wanganui Chronicle." "Thero is, however, a scarcity of cattle up this way. Several settlors have journeyed as far as tho AVaikato and purchased in that district. I am informed, on good authority, tlr.it during the last few months there has been soniething like SUOO steers sold in the Waikato for this part and tho East Coast. Settlors up north are now realising that they have disposed of moro than they can spare, and will, in all probability, require them back in a few months' time."
