Any anxiety that may have been felt for the uafety of the scow Ngaru is now dispelled. The vessel arrived at Blacit Point, Pelorus Sound, yesterday, having been over a fortnight on the voyage from Wellington. According to a telegram received by the local agents, tho vessel has been sheltering at Port Underwood. Yesterday the Government steamer Hiiiemoa was at Timaru. She is due to-day at Dunedin, via Moeraki. A Press Association telegram states that the steamer Indian Monarch, bound from Valparaiso to Newcastle, put into Auckland yesterday for bunker coal. Word by the Australian mail statea that the steamer Pnpanui, which, struck an uncharted rock on the Tasmanian coast a few months ago, and sustained serious damage, will probably be towed to Sydney for repairs. The seuior engineer surveyor of the Marino Board recently examined tiic vessel, and reported that it would be necessary to renew 56 plates, and to her seaworthy. Ponding this work being carried out, tho board ordered the vessel to be detained. It is estimated that tho repairs will cost about £25,000.
