FIRES.
A BLOCK BURNED. (By Telegraph— Pros? Association.) Dunedin, July 11. . A small block of. wooden buildings at Stirling was destroyed by fire yesterday morning about eight o'clock. The fire is supposed to have originated in Mr. \V. Knox's hairdre.'sing saloon, whore a firo was left burning in the grate the previous night. Mr. Knox's saloon and billiard room, with two table?, together with the stock were completely destroyed, as was Mr. John , Henderson's saddler's shop and stock, and an empty shop. Mr. Hair's dwelling-house ' adjoining was saved. Mr. Henderson's place and empty shop was owned by Mr. Simon Lewis, and the insurances were .£SO on each in the United. Mr. Henderson had his stock insured for a similar amount in the same office. Mr. Kuox's insurance is not known, but it is stated to be only about a third of the loss.
