(From Our Special Correspondent.) ■ « . Shortly before midnight on Saturday 'last a fire broke out and destroyed a house at ICoro Koro, owned and occupied "by Mr. Forsyth. The house was insured for ,£250, and the furniture for ,£IOO. The origin of the fire is not known. Mr. Forsyth estimates his loss at about ,£l5O.

The business transacted by tho Petono Borough Council last evening was mostly of a routine character, n considerable portion of the evening being devoted to a discussion (reported elsewhere) on tho question of tho forfeiture of a councillor's seat. There wore present :—The Jtayor (Mr. J. W. MTEwan) and Councillors Troeman, Jones, List, Young, Piper, Southgate, Harding, and Short. The usual Church of England Men's Society (Petone Branch) was held last evening, Mr. C. Cumsty presiding. There was an excellent attendance. An interesting address was given by the Rev. O. W. Dent, of Elthara. After tho address the usual discussion took place, Mr. Dent subsequently replying to tho various points raised. At the Petono Police Court yesterday morniui, before Mr. W. Inglis, J.P., G. A. Tegg, on a charge of drunkenness was senvictw and fined 10s.
