': The monthly meeting of the Makara - County Council, held yesterday, was attended by Councillors F. T. Mooro (chairman), J. H. Haggerty, U. Eastwood, G..Monlc, and 'I'. H. Hawkins. ■
• The Karori Borough Council a§ked the. council to contribute half cost of tlio Makara Hill Bridge. The council declined,, on tlx© ground that all heavy traffic Using the bridge came froiri the Karori side.
"The council endorsed a resolution emanating from the' Bruce County Council and providng that all conveyancers' and owners of sections must notify the, local authority in writing when making transfers.
Messrs. T. S. Jackson arid (J. Eagle waited upon, the council, as a deputation from the residents of Newlands, to ask that, ;f possible, the, transfer of that district from 'the -Johnsonville Town District to the Makara County should! bo hastened. The chairman said there was a particular section (No. 92) in the Newlands district which the Johnsonville Board desired to retain in making tho transfer. Makiira was getting five or six time3> the area and present valuation in exchange for what it was giving. The chairman proposed That this council forego its chtim to Section 92 in the Johnsonville Town District, and that tho alteration of boundaries be agreed to. Councillor Eastwood moved an amendment, that the council strongly object to the transfer. The Johnsonville Town Board was picking the eyes out of the county. Tho original motion was carried, and Hie chairman informed the deputation that tho alteration would in all likelihood bo carried out forthwith.
"" A statement was received from the engineer in reference to the 1 proposed now road from Ngahauranga into Newlands. The chairman remarked that it would not be more than one mile long; the,road now in use was two and a half miles long. The people of Newlands, in view of the saving to be effected, wero willing to have their district made a special rating district- so that interest on the sum of £1200, required to make the road, might bo raised. It wiis agreed that the road be constructed 15ft. wide and securely fenced on its lower side.
One member complained that straying stock might be seen on the roads any night.' A deputation was appointed to interview the ranger, and it was decided that in future the official should bo' required to report to a councillor in ditch riding twico a month.
It was agreed that the portion of Horokiwi Eoad, traversing Sir. J. Harrington's property, bo closed to heavy traffic during the winter months.
