LACROSSE.

ilSl "Cr.NIItE.")

A Long-deferred, Match. ; It is to lie hoped that the long-deferred Cup match between Columbia and Ivelburne will be decided to-day. These clubs were to have met. on' Saturday, June 25, but continued wet weather prevented lacrosse on that and the succeeding Saturday. If Jupiter 'Pluvius will tako a day off to-day, sonic good lacrosse should result on the Basin Reserve when these clubs face one another. The match in the first round between these teams, it will be remembered, was won by Columbia, by G goals to 3. Kelbunin having defeated every other club, is very keen on dangling the stalp of the blackjerseyod team at its belt. Columbia, is equally desirous of downing uhce mnro the men of the hills, and consequently some very interesting lacrosse is expected. Columbia's forward division is, if unything, faster than Kelburue's, but what the Blues lack in pace they make up in stickwork. in the, buck division, Kelburno arc comparatively much heavier and each man has the. faculty of being a "worrier." Columbia's defence is not -,o sound, but it is; less liable to become disorganised,' the men in their respective positions being cooler and more dogged.

Capitol and Wellington. The iiuiteh between Capitol .and Wellington, at Duppa Street) should also .provide good lacrosse. Wellington have ialel.v added to their ranks a player of great renown—one Murray. This wilt give great strength to their defencc, and Capitol will find it ditticutt to penetrate (ho Hals' defences as frequently as they did during the last match against Columbia, particularly as it" is expected -Montgomery wilj not be available.

"To Lift the Ashes." Followers of the Canadian gainu will be pleased to learn that their association is energetically working' to complete the arrangements for the Auckland trip. There is every reason to believe that their efforts will result in one of the strongest twelves ever chosen to represent , this uty being sent north to "lift the ashes." L'rior to the .departure ,of the chosen men a concert is to be.'given, and a very attractive programiue'is now. in courso of preparation by referee..A. G. Anderson. In lacrosse circles there is a good deal uS talent-, vocal anil'otlici'wise; which will bo re(iuisitione.i},,;:'But , of,this, more anon.

A Noteworthy .Week in Australia: last week was a noteworthy ' one in Australian lacrosse, as all the States' rcyi'er.ejitative cliibs .were, to meet in Adelaide, where an All States' Cavnival had been inaugurated. The results of the various contests will be published in this column- immediately they coma to hand.,

'l'lio American footballers are expected, tu arrive 011 Wednesday's boat, awl as lacrosse is played' extensively in the States, representatives 'of the Lacrosse Association are expected to meet ■ and welcome, theui-':to Maoriland. ...... 1
