The golf matches, -AVairarapa v. Manawatu, will bo played ■ hicro ion Monday, not Tuesday. . ' Mr. L. A. Abraham, of tbo firm of Barraud and Abraham, will judge the grain and grass seed sections at the Hawko's Bay Show. Mr. Abraham has had considerable experience in this line, and liis appointment as judge will naturally give confidence to exhibitors. Tho Hongotea Horticultural Society has issued a comprehensive schedule foiiis spring show. The society is a very live institution, and is making excellent progress. A few days ago an employee of a local dairy farmer sustained a broken leg by a kick from a cow'. He is progressing. towards recovery in tho local hospital. Messrs. Gardner Bros., of Fitaherbert East, have sold their farm to Mr. Scholes, of Linton. , At the monthly meeting of the College Street School . Committee, the, headmaster reported that there were 492 names ou the roll, with an average attendance of : 102. A bazaar, oil a largo scale, is being organised in- aid of the 6chool funds.There was a very large attendance at'tho Opera Ilduse last night, when the Palmerston Liedertafel gave the first concert of tlie current season. This is only the Liedertafel's third season, and the progress made lias been really wonderful, and says much for tho work of the conductor, Mr. F. W. A. Mason, and the members. Tlie audience last evening was an appreciative one, and almost all the numbers, both concerted and solo, had to be repeated. The soloists were Messrs. AV. Hughes and Pcrrin, and both were in fine voice. Much of tlie success of the entertainment was due to tho efforts of tho lion, secrotary, Mr. It. A. Fuller, who had charge of the general arrangements: Mr. P. A. Jl'Hardy has donated £5 to the Palmerston Beautifying Society. In forwarding tho cheque to the president, Mr. AV. Park, Mr. Jl'Hardy wrote in appreciative terms of the work of tho society. Manawatu Lodge of Oddfellows held its usual meeting last niglit, when there was a largo attendance, P. 6. Bro. Pcttett being in the chair. The quarterly report and balance-sheet showed the lodge to be progressing satisfactorily. The balances were shown as follow:— Sick and, funeral, £3779 Bs.; benevolent, £17. A considerable amount of routine business was''transacted.
