GAMBLING PALACES.
EIVALS TO MONTE CARLOBy Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Rome, July 4. An Anglo-Italian syndicate is transforming one of the small towns on Lake Maggioro (one of the chief lakes of northern Italy) into a rival of Monte Carlo. The capital of tho syndicate is £160,000 sterling.
The newspaper "II Secolo" states that a syndicate has also been formed to promot-e the establishment of gambling palaces at Madeira, and that the capital subscribed totals half a million pounds.
