He was, of course, greatly relieved to find his child at the station. Dr. A. Martin has been compelled to enter a private hospital to undergo an operation for appendicitis. Dr. Wylie, of New Plymouth, will- perform tho operation. There is a large gathering of Salvation officers in Palmerston at the present time, and very large 'meetings are being held nightly. The usual meeting of Court Manawatu, A.0.F., was held last night, Bro. Wickenden, P.C.R., being in the chair. A committee was set up to arrange for a monster art union with the' object of raising funds to pay off the balance owing on the hall. It was reported that there were four sick members on the funds.' Exception is being taken by a number of residents to the manner in which tho trees in several of our streets aro being cut back. The work, however, is being carried out under the direction of Mr. Black, the borough curator, who is recognised as a very competent man in theso matters, and ho should know more about what should bo dono with the trees than the ordinary amateur. Bankruptcy statistics for Palmerston and district for the quarter just ended show that eleven persons filed their schedules. The number of bankruptcies at the end of the preceding quarter was 15, and the total bankruptcies now in hand number 26. Mr. A. H. Rogers, of the Royal Hotel, has presented the Manawatu Rugby Union with a handsome silver cup for competition among the players.
