The cantata, "Under tho Palms," was repeatw! on Sunday evening last to a crowded audience. The football fixtures for last week were pnt off on, account of tho Recreit. tion Ground being in too moist a condition. It seems probable that the same thinf: will be done this week, for rain lias been falling continuously since last Wednesday. Mr. Edgar Harding has been nominated bv the district Order of R-eehabites for the position of inspector. , Mr. Stephen Hutchins, who is an expert on gardening matters, reports that there is some insect in the district which is going to be fatal to cabbage-growim; this coining season. A large quantity of sped has been planted, but with no good effect, and Mr. Hutchins intends forwarding samples of the "pest" to the Government analyst, with a view of obtaining the best method of treatment.
