OBITUARY.
MBS. CAPTAIN P. W. HOWARD,
News was received privately yesterday of the death, of Mrs. Howard, mother of M . r /' H-ojace Gramond, of this city, and wife of Captain P. W. Howard, of PonBonby, Auckland. The deceased lady '.who was about 70 years of age, was a daughter of the late Captain J. R. ciendon, R.N. (who settled at Kororareka, and was a member of tho first Legislative Council), and a sister of the late Judge Glendon of the Native Land Court. Jier mother dying young, she was sent tj> Sydney to be educated under the guardianship of her aunt, Lady Cooper wife of Sir Darnel Cooper (the elder). On returning to the Bay of Islands she met and married Captain P. W. Howard, who efcill survives, a wonderful old man who came out from England with the late Bishop Selwyn. The members of deceased's family are Messrs. Harry Howard (an Auckland farmer), Mr. Arthur Howard (of the Wanganui Post Office staff, and well known in Wellington), Mr. Claude Howard, of Hamilton,- Mr! Trevor Howard, of the Thames, Mrs. Horace Cramond (of Seatoun), and Miss Jloivard, who resides in Auckland.
