Herr Wachter covered sixty miles on a frame-work Antoinette, which, apparently, suddenly collapscd. The aviator fell headlong to the earth from a height of 200 metres (about 650 feet), and was killed instantly. His mother and sister witnessed the accident. (Rec. July 4, 11.40 p.m.) Paris, July 4. Herr Wachter's wife and five-year-old daughter also witnessed his death. The wing of the main plane of the aeroplane buckled with a loud crack, and portions of the canvas became detached. It is believed that the drenching rain caused an undue tension on tho material.

"FLYING WEEK" SPOILED. London, July 3. Wind and rain practically prevented the holding of a "flying week" at Wolverhampton. Tho weather improved on Saturday, lm't the wind still continued so high that four aeroplanes were smashed. Mr. Grahamo White, tho English aeroplanist, who has put up some fino performances', won one thousand pounds sterling for the aggregate distance covered.

COMMONWEALTH COMPETITION. Melbourne, July 1. Of the entries for the Commonwealth, aeroplane prize, Victoria contributed 18, New South Wales 11, and South Australia and Western Australia oue each, 'i'lioro wero six entries from England, but theso were ineligible. The remaining entry was from a place unknown.
