| PATHE PBERES' ENTERPRISE. (From Our Special Correspondent.) Palmerston, July 8. A lecture on the kindergarten system, as it obtains in England, was given in tho Campbell Street School on Saturday afternoon by Miss M'Donald, a teacher engaged under the Wanganui Education Board. Miss M'Donald has just returned from a visit to the Old Country, where she was authorised by the Education Board to inquire into tho kindergarten systems of teaching there. Between twenty and thirty female tc-aehers wero present, and Miss M'Donald's address was listened to with interest. At tho conclusion a vote of thanks was accorded, on the motion of Mrs. Howie, seconded by Mrs. Hanna. The rainfall for Juno, as taken by Mr. C. J. Munro, at Pitzherbert West, is as follows:—Rain fell on 19 days, with an aggregate of <1.41 inches, tho highest fall in 24 hours being .05 on June 19. Palmerston's veteran nightvatchman, Mr. Thompson, after thirty years' service in watching the Square, has resigned from that position. A specialist of tho Pathe moving picture flrtu, Mr. Barrett, was engaged today taking pictures at tho Miranui flaxmills. The film should prove an interesting industrial picture. "Whilst in Palmerston Mr. Barrett will take photos of the Tiritoa waterworks and other scenic spots about tho district. At the Police. Court, to-day several cyclists and drivers of vehicles without lights wero fined various sums for breaches of the borough by-laws. For exposing sheep for sale infected with parasites, E. Wilton and Jas. M'Cardfe were fined 20s. each and costs. A squabble which took place at Rongotea about tho middle of June resulted in Arthur Grcigg being charged at the Police Court here with assaulting Harry Holtham. Defendant did not appear, and after hearing tho evidence of complainant a fine of .£5 and costs was imposed, with tho alternative of fourteen days' hard labour. The Manawatu and Pohangina rivers wore in high flood yesterday, as the result. of thto heavy rains or the past few days. Tho Pohangina River especially was more swollen than has been tho case for a considerable time.
