The trial of Frau Weber von Schoenebeck), for complicity in the murder of her first husband, an officer in the Allenstoin garrison, has oommonccd at Allenstoin. While abed at her hotel to-day she attempted to commit snicid* by severing the veins in one of hor wrists. The woman Weber had eventually to be removed to a lunatic asylum. THE CRIME. Major von Schoenebeck was found shot in his bedroom at Allenstoin, Eastern Prussia, on December 24, ISO 7. A fullyloaded revolver was found by his side, disposing of the first idea that the major had committed suicide. On December 28, Captain von Goeben was arrested, and charged with the murder. Von Goeben fought under De Wet in the Boer ar, and was a brilliant and distinguished officer of the German Army. Three days after his arrest, he confessed his crime, and Frau von Schoenebeck was then arrested on suspicion of having instigated the murder of her husband. It appears that on Christmas Eve von Goeben was present at the Christmas festivities in von Shpenebeck's residence, and just before midnight he said good-night to the major. Instead of departing, however, he hid in Frau von Schocnebeck's room. Later in the night he entered his host's room and killed him. He stated that he committed the crime in a state, of lovo frenzy. After' his arrest he was kept under medical supervision, but tho doctors found that he was mentally sound. He committed suicide in prison ou March is, 19(18, by severing his jugular vein. Frau von Schoenebeck was released as being hopelessly insane, but was arrested in March last.
