THE VETO BILL.
IF THE CONFERENCE FAILS.
THE BUDGET. MK. ASQUITH AND THE NATIONALISTS. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright. London, July 1. There arc indications that in the event of the Conference proving a failure, the Government will submit the Veto Bill to the House of Lords in tho autumn, with the view to an election in January. Rumours foreshadow the possibility of the Constitutional Conference ending in failure. In tho House of Commons, tho Primo Minister, Mr. Asquith, said that the later stages of the Budget might bo taken in tho autumn session. Newspaper comments suggest that Mr. Asquith wishes to retain the Nationalists' allegiance until the Lords' veto question assumes a more definite shape. Irish newspapers threaten strenuous opposition to the-whisky duties. EAST DORSET BYrELECTION. London, July 1. Tho election for East Dorset, rendered necessary by the unseating of Captain F. E. Guest (Liberal), resulted in tho return of Major C. H. Guest (brother of Captain Guest). The voting was:— Major Guest (Liberal) 6967 Colonel J. S. Nicholson (Conservative) '. 1375 [Colonol Nicholson's figures should, no tloubt, be G375. At tho general election, tho voting was: Captain Guest 6957, Colonel, Nicholsou 6531.]
