Saturday, July 9, was set down for tho challenge hockey shield match between Poverty Bay and Wellington. Poverty Bay being unable to make the trip, however, the date has been offered to Horowhenua for their match, Horowhenua having challenged for the shield. Although there is little t-imo to got ready, the Horowhenua Management Committee lias wisely accepted the date, and the local representative team will thus meet Wellington 011 July 9.' In connection with the above, it has been arranged to hold a trial match. North .v. South, at Levin, 011 Wednesday next. Tho northern team will _be selected from Rovers and Levin, and Manakau forwards, whilo tho southern men will be picked from Otaki, Rahui, and Manakau backs. It is propose'!, after the first spell lias been played, to select a probable team to play tho remainder of the game against the others. It has not yet been definitely .decided who shall select tho representative team. Messrs. Nicolson and Penn have selected tho following to represent tho South team Goal, .Tudd; backs, Freeman and Noble; halves, 0. Bennett, AV. and Russell; forwards, Griffith, Kehu, Rands, Bell, and Bright. Emergencies; Backs, Jones, Hayward, and G. Judd; forwards, Kilmister, Hughes, and tJtiku.
