A SUCCESSFUL TOURNEY. The Manawatu championship boxing meeting 'ill the Opera House at Palmerston North on Thursday night was most successful from every point.' Tho roped arena was padded with the matting invented by Mr. I. J. Fake, Manawatu's popular referee, and it proved to bo an excellent covering, and saved at. least one man- from a severe knock on the back of the head. Tho management of the gathering was in the capable hands of Mr. W. H. Hankins, hon. secretary, who had the assistance of the president, Dr. J. W. O'Brien, and a hard-working' committee, of which Messrs. L. Young,. Percy Smith,' and F. W. Bond were ring stewards; Messrs. W. Randall and A. J. Mahon timekeepers; while Mr. I. J. Fake carried out tlie onerous duties of referee to the satisfaction of all concerned.
