BUSINESS OP COMMITTEES. The fortnightly meeting of tho City Council was held last evening, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr. T. M. "Wilfoi'd, and Councillors Luke, Cohen, Ballini;er, Trevor, Atkinson, Devine, Canuichael, Hindmarbh, M'Laren, Fletcher, and Morrah.

That the request of a shopkeeper for the flagging of the footpath at tho south side of Manners Street, be not acceded to at present.

That tho petitioners for tlio construction of a short cut Irom Raroa lload to the Rarori tramway bo informed that the council cannot undertake to do the work, ami suggest to them that the liarori Borough Council should lie approached.

That the proposal of the Department of Lands and Survey for the lixiiig of level bench marks along the sea front within the city boundary be agreed to. The ostium ted cost to tho corporation was .£l2.

That Mr. .Tones, of Adelaide Road, lie informed that no further action could be taken in. th© matter of constructing a track to give access to liis property. The report was adopted.

TRAMWAYS. Tlio Power Stations and Tramways Commitec'recommended:—Tliaf Rule 3" of tho corporation wiring rules, regulating the winng capacity of conductors at 1000 amperes per square inch, bo struck out, and that,.in place thereof, rules 31 to 3."i, both inclusive, of the Institute of Electrical Engineers,. London, providing for a carrying capacity of ,1000 amperes in the smaller wires, be adopted. The report was adopted. OUTLYING DISTRICTS. The Outlying Districts Committee recommended

J'liat the Crawford Estato trustees be called upon to complete work in connection with Xaugliton Terracc. That the Crawford' Lstate trustees and 51 r.. R. Stratford, owners of sections at Cniiekstiank Street, bo called upon to extend the drains.

That the stormwater drain at Short Street, Vogel town, lis extended about 50 through the properly of Messrs. M"i'avish and Company. That the llataitai Municipal Electors' Association be informed, in reply to their request for chanolling at llala'itai, that no further expenditure could be authorised this year. The coinmitteo reported that tho money required to.effect the necessary alterations to Childer's Terrace could not be expended this year, but that tho cilv engineer would remove projections on the western side of the road.
