THE NAIRNSHIRE'S PASSAGE. Tho outstanding feature of the voyage of the steamer Nairnshire (says the "Register"), which arrived at Port Adelaide from Liverpool on Tuesday, June 21. wan the extraordinary run of east-south-east to north-east gales between the meridian of the Capo of Good Hope and Capo IJorda. The Nairnshire brouirht an exceptionally heavy consignment of cargo. Among the officers is Mr. W. Shearman (chief steward), who has not visited Australia since he was in the Ii.M.S. Oroya 21 years ago. The Nairnshire called at Madeira on Hay 6 to replenish bunkers, and did not make the land again until (sighting Cape Borda. Tho equator was crossed on May 15, the meridian of tho Cape of Good Hope reached on May 25. The easting was run down in Lat. 47 deg. S. "During the whole of that part of the voyage," stated one of the officers on arrival, "thero were only two days of fair winds." The Nairnshire hammered through the. head winds and seas with»iit damage', but the passage was prolonged in consequence. Captain Pordcr is now in command of 'to Nairnshire, which was expected to leave Sydney yesterday for Auckland. Mr. W. Brigden rejoined the Queen of the South as mate yesterday, and Mr. J. Hall signed off. Mr. Keefe has been appointed second oflicer of the Kamona. Both the Kurow and .Komata wero loading at Wcstport yesterday for Wellington. The former was fixed to sail at 4 a.m. to-day, aud tho Komata follows to-mor-row. This morning tho barquentino' Speculant goes out into the stream to adjust coinHer repairs are now practically completed, and she will sail for Gisbornc .it the first opportunity. Yesterday the Holmdalb left Greymouth for Lyttelton. At the latter port she ill be placed on the Patent Slip for annual overhaul. With coal from vjeymouth the Poherua is due here this afternoon. Tho Ivittawa is expected from the saino port to-morrow afternoon. The pioneer steamers of the new steamship service from Montreal to Melbourne, ytmey, and New Zealand ports, the Bakaia and Whakatar.e, have, it seems, been secured for outward business (says the "Commercial News and Shipping List"). They will arrive in Australia in August, and, being refrigerated steamers, will undoubtedly load large quantities of frozen cargo. Several - notices to mariners appear in this week's Gazette. They refer to beacons at Great Barrier, light on Glasgow Wharf, Napier, and change of channel and buoys in Wairoa. River.
