CARTERTON. The annual meeting of the Carterton Gnu Club was held on Tuesday afternoon, Mi'. H Catt presiding. It was shown by flic report and balance-sheet that the club had had a very successful year. A vote of thanks was passed to Messrs. Mvcrs and Co. (Wellington), H. T. Jones and Son (Wanganui), J. Oates (Waihakckc), W. Howard Booth (Carterton), \V. C. Buchanan, M.B. (Gladstone), and the Colonial Ammunition Company (Auckland) for donations of trophies. It was decided to arrange a match with the Featherston Club, and it was resolved that the "shoot" on Saturday week bo for sweepstakes. Officers, as under, were elected:—Patron, Mr. J. Oates; president, Mr. W. C. Buchanan, M.P.; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. J. M. I.ightfoot, J. T. M. Hornsby, It. H. AVolters, G .Yv. Deller, W. M. Halley, W. Howard Booth; treasurer, Mr. C. S. Beochey; secretary, Mr. \V. Tucker; general committee, Messrs. ,T. S. Laurenson, H. Catt, C. S. Beecliey, J. G. Oates. and T. 11. Hughes; finance committee, Messrs. Catt, Laurenson, and Beecbey. Messrs. 11. Hart and R. J. Gnyfer were added to the membership roll. Messrs. H. .1. E. Meyrick and C. B. P. Armstrong left Carterton on Wednesday with exhibits for the championship poultry show at Hastings . Mr. Meyrick will represent the South Wairarapa Poultry Association at the annual meeting of the North Island Association, which takes place there on Friday. At the Settlers' Club on Tuesday evening a party from Greytown met the club billiard players in a snooker match, and, after a very pleasant series of games, the match ended in a draw. Messrs. Johnson Bros, of Parkvale, are procuring a 6-h.p. compound three-speed Burrell road engine, mounted on springs, with a maximum working pressure of 2001b. per squaro inch. At a meeting of the local Borough Council on Tuesday evening, a general rate of a penny in the i: and a water rate, 5 per cent, on the rateable value, were struck. Information was received from the Wairarapa South County Council that the water races would be closed from June 30 to July 20, to enable them to bo cleaned.
