BIG PRICES FOR FARMS.
SOME TARANAKI FIGURES,
Less than a year ago it was reported that n New Zealand record in the price of dairying land had been mado at Manaia," in Taranaki. The figure was £Ho an acre, and if the report was correct in every particular the price was a record. At Hawcra last Saturday Mr. W. C. Phillips, one of Taranaki's best-known farmers, established what must be near the record "refusal." Mr. Phillips offered for sale a farm of 333 acres, for which ■£53 ss. an acre was bid. The price, however, was refused, and it was stated that the reserve was five guineas higher—.£s3 10s. The farm is at lnaha, between Hawera and Manaia, and is said to be carrying 350 head of cattle at present, but. tho local papers do not make clear what is tho number of cattle it cau carry throughout the year. Another high-price transaction is reported from Iho dairying province. Mr. W. T. Wells, of Manaia, is said to have purchased the section adjoining that already owned by him at Hirstlands at JSO an acre. A Taranaki paper says that compared with prices given for land of equal quality situated much further from the railway the price is quite reasonable.
