Curtis, who was formerly a member of the Legislative Assembly of Cape Colonv, arrived in Wellington by the Kuauehii yesterday. llr. Curtis will remain fn Wellington about a fortnight, and will then pay a visit to Auckland. Ho is interested in observing tho legislation and conditions of the Dominion. Mr. J. 11. Owen, general manager for Sharland and Co., returned from a visit to Sydney by the lloeraki yesterday. Mr. T. Shailcr "Weston, of tho legal firm of Izard and Weston, was a passenger by the lloeraki from Sydney yesterday. Lieutenant Stevens, lalo of the Royal .Field Artillery, has been appointed stuffofficer to Major T. W. il'Donald, Commandant of the Junior Cudets. Among Hie returning passengers from Australia by the Moeraki yesterday were Mr. Leslie Rutherford, of Canterbury, Mr. Louis Plnrazyu and Ills son, of the Wairurapa, Br. Williams, of Oisborne, and Mr. C. Miranid, of Wellington. The employees in the Painting Depaitment at the Pntono Jiaihvay Workshops last night tendered a "social" to llr. I'. Waddell, who is about to sever fun connection with the service. Mr. T. Brooker presided. During rho proceedings the guest was presented with a handsome oak salad bowl, and salvers, llr. G. Braid mndo the presentation. A private cable message received last night anuouncVl the death, at midday on Tuesday, of tiic Rev. Father Archibald A. MatDouahl, at Cooma, New South Wales. Deceased, who was 30 years of ago, was the eldest son of the late llr. Aloysius Mac Donald, formerly manager of the Bank of New South Wales in Wellington. Born in Victoria, he received the greater portion of his education at Riverview College, Sydney, whence he went to St. Patrick's Seminary, at Manly, New South Wales, to study for the •Church. Ho was ordained towards the end of December, 190R, when he was appointed to the Mcsman Bay Parish, S\\lney. From there he was transferred to Noss-Yale, New South Wales, under the Kev. James Carroll (now Bishop of Lismore). Early in 1900 he was sent to do parish work at Cooma, New South 4 Wales, where he succumbed whilst undergoing an operation for apendicitis. It was only on June 18 that the mother of deceased, Mrs. Ellen Mac Donald, passed away at her son's residence at Levin. Deceased leaves four brothers to mourn his loss, viz., Messrs. Ronald and John MacDonalid, of Levin, and Messrs. Colin and Aloysius Mac Donald, both of "Wellington. The death occurred yesterday at her residence, MTarlane Street, of Mrs. Rentier," widow of tho late Captain F. W. S. Renner, and mother of Mr. Robert Kenner, manager of the Patea Shipping Company. The deceased, -who was widely known and rspected, was 8i years of age.
