CARTERTON ITEMS

Winter poisoning for rabbits is now being vigorously proceeded with throughout the South Wairarapa district. and the local inspectors appear to be alert in encouraging settlers to avail themselves of tho prevailing fine weather, and to do their utmost to reduce tho rabbits to a minimum before the breeding season comes round _ again. This is obviously practical advice, as there can. be no doubt that every rabbit destroyed at the present time is worth a dozen later on. The work of poisoning now in progress is also much appreciated as a means of affording employment to a considerable number of men, at a time when other work is difficult to obtain.
Tho South Wairarapa Poultry Association has issued an attractive proptjiiiidio for their fourth annual show, which is to be held here on August 20 and 21. ,
On Mondav evening nest a Viumber of the brethren of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge journey to Masterton at the invitation of the 'lodge there.
. j[ r . H. E. Lumley, who has been in business here as a carrier between the town and the coast, has decided to relinquish the business, and it is understood is going in for. farming.
