LACROSSE.
(Bi "Centhe.'") Laorosseurs draw the line at playing their gamo in oilskins and 6ca-boots, consequently they did not turn out on Saturday. Let us hope for tho best this week-end—two wet playing days would uertainly dampen our ardours. "Centre's" two selected teams havo excited much comment. There have been murmurings nnd mutterings in divers quarters, and tho writer liar, been compelled to frequent side streets in order to avoid being button-holed forexplanations. "Centre," however, stands by his selections, and defies anyone to put forward two teams moro suitable for trial purposes. Of course "probables" and "possibles" _ were merely suggestions; "Contro" did not for one_ moment expect the Lacrosse Association to accept tlies? without reierring then. iu then official selectors. ,
The referees have been calling round [or explanations regarding amendments, alleged to have been made by the association, to certain rules. "Centre" strongly objects to referees wearing out his doormat, and would feel indebted to the Lacrosse Association if it will arrange to have knights of tho whistlo call round at. its front door in future, or send along a lioto of the amendments for publication. There is some trouble ov.er tho rule nncnt tho wearing of spiked shoos. Kefnreo Anderson received protests from two (dull captains tho other Saturday, relaling to certain players who came on tho field wearing football boots. Tho official in question states that ho can find nothing in llio official rules vt lacrosse
prohibiting players taking part in a gum© in 1 his class of footwear, and until the association authorises publication of a rule lo the contrary ho will continue to allow players to ' wear what the.v choose on their "nimble nines/' provide!! spiked soles do not appeal*. Club captains will nute that games will be started at 3 p.m. prompt on Saturday. The preparatory whisLLe will sound at 2.57 p.m., and the gamo will commenco throe minutes later. Thero have been instances lately where teams who came along early managed to establish a comfortable lead ere their opponents put in appearance. ITaj'ers are well advised to take to heart previous warnings administered in- this column ancnt the questioning of the referes' decisions New South Wales selectors have selected a strong team to represent their State at tho forthcoming carnival at Adelaide. men chosen have expressed their willingness to go into training quarters at once. Let the Wellington representatives who are selected to"visit Auckland take a lesson from their friends "on tho other side." "Centre" has all along advocated hard training for lacrosseurs who tako part in representative matches, and thorough training can only lie accomplished in proper quarters, with strict discipline 1 maintained right up to tho last hour. There ought to bo something to interest the spectator in to-day's games. The Kelburne-Wellington match at the Basin Reserve will prove a tit-bit, and a hard tussle is expccted. Capitol will have their hands full with Columbia at Duppa Street. Captain Casey reports his men fit and eager, whilo Skipper Borrodale remains silent on the question—this may portend a surprise for the Blacks. "Centre" is awaiting further information regarding the proposed concert and dance. Devotees of tho game will welcome an opportunity of foregathering and spending a few joyous hours together. Next Saturday "Centre" hopes to have something to say regarding tho forthcoming trials. TO-DAY'S GAMES. Kelburnc v. Wellington, Basin Reserve, 3 p.m., referee, Mr. M'Govern; Capitol v. Columbia, Duppa Street, 3 p.m., referee. Mr. A. G. Anderson.
