DOMINION CONVENTION.
OF NO-LICENSE WORKERS.' OPENING proceedings: Seventy-five out of the.76 electorates in New -Zealand were represented at" tho annual meeting of the New Zealand Alliance and Dominion No-Licenso. which "was. oponed yesterday in St. John's Schoolroom, Dixon Street. Mr. Wesley Spragg, of Auckland, president of the Alliance, occupied the chair. .The following appointments wero made: —Minute secretaries, Mr. C. T. Agar and-Rev. W. H. Hinton; reporters, Rev. J. Cocker and Mr. E. A. Israel.- . 'The llev: J. Dawson read tho annual report, in the course of which reference was made to the terms of-the agreement arrived at with the Govcrnntent 'in regard to futuro legislation. It -was also stated that in future the day-school syllabus ( would include the, ;instruction of tho'scholars .concerning. 'pe J evlls-ili connection: withvthb'Vise'bf. alcohol; Reference was also made to .the removal from the Defence Bill of ' the, provision to allow. drink to bo sold nf" military ; camps."- -During the year a .conference-had'been held with "King"' .Mahuta, and representative chiefs of tho Waikato, and several leaders of the 'No-Liconse, party with reference to the admission of liquor to the King Conn-; try. Tlio representatives of the Maoris expressed themselves against allowing liquor being imported into the proclaimed area. Considerable pleasure, was -expressed that -thorp had. been. a decrease of or 4s. 3d. per head, lit tho amount spent- upon liquor in. Now Zealand during tho year. ' . ■ JTlie report was.adopted, as was also tho .balance-sheet, .which showed a substantial, amount, in hand. A number of notices of motion were handed in, and a motion was. carried, to adjourn the convention for a quarter of an hour in 'the afternoon out of respect to tho new Governor. It was also decided to send a loyal address of welcome to the Gov- ■ ernor. '■ - ■ ' -' ■ ■■ \ AThe afternoon session Was opened with a hymn, and prayer by the Rev, R. W. .Jackson.. . Delegates .were welcomed by the president (Mr. ' Wesley Spragg),'and speeches on the present position' of the party were delivered -bv Messrs. H. D. Bedford, G. B.' Nicholls, and A. R. Atkinson.
