[Specially written for Tut Dominion.) ••'■ THURSDAY. Celery soup. Cooked meat curry. Potatoes. Pumpkin. Baked bread and butter pudding: COOKED MEAT CURRY. One pound mutton, small; one finely-mincod onion, ono finely-ininecd apple, three-quarters pint of stock', ono dessertspoonful of curry powder, one dessertspoonful of chutney, two pounded cloves, half teaspoonful of lemon juice. A little coconut if liked. Salt to taste. Fry the apple and onion in a small quantity of dripping or • butter until brown. Stir in tho flour and curry powder and add gradually the stock. Cook a few minutes,- stirring all the time, and then-add all-'.the. other ingredients except the lemon.juice. Sim-, mer for one hour,, add the lemon; juice, and serve with -rice.- . i. ,j ; FOR. SOCIAL AND PERSONAL. ft Wellington Wedding, ..••■'■''•■ Yesterday afternoon, Miss Henrietta Roscoe, youngost daughter • of Mr. and Mrs, Henry Roscoe, was married • to Mr. Gerald Lyon, eldest sou of the late Mr. AV. D. Lyon, of Wellington Terrace, the Rev. AV. X> Evans ■ officiating. The ceremony took place at the Constable Street Congregational Church, which was decorated-with white flowers and foliage, in the presence of a number of : friends of the bride and bridegroom. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore-a charming princess-, dress of white satin charmeuso, with silver and pearl fringed trimming,: and wide bands' of lace insertion. She wore also a bridal wreath, and embroidered veil, and'carried a sheaf of exquisite lilies. The bridesmaids were: Miss E. Miller; 'Miss Madge Lyon, sister of the bridegroom, and a little maid, Miss Iris Vicars, niece of the bride. The elder maids wore costumes of cream serge-with braided Russian coats and- wide green, hats lined with pale, blue.-They also-wore, white fox furs, and carried white ; muffs, oh, which'were fastened sprays of violets. The little maid, dressed in white embroideredfrock, with a little Dutch bonnet, carried a basket of yellow jonquils. Mr. Eric Lyon, brother of'the bridegroom, was. best man, and Mr. Paul, groomsman. '.' After the wedding the guests came into town, where a reception was held at the home of Mrs. ,AV. D. Lyon, the bridegroom's mother,-and there the. large rooms were filled, with'guests. The drawing-room was. decorated with jonquils, narcissi, and yello.w wattle, and in the dining-room, where tea was served, :the table was very prettily decorated with yellow and while jonquils, and .feathery grasses-arranged in tall vases; The presents were on view in ■ the billiard-room, among them ' being a pair of, handsome . silver candlesticks from the Wellington gymnasium, and silver and cutlery from the staff of the National Mutual Life Association!'. '. Mrs.' Lyon wore a coat and skirt of violet-cloth, .with .white'.'velvetv'.toque trimmed with violets, arid a ; set of ! furs.' Mrs. Roscoe,. mother of the bride, wore a brown' 'cloth' coat and '"skirt," and toque "to match, with pale pink; roses; Mrs.- Alexander, grandmother of the bridegroom, black silk and white bon-; net; Mrs. H. Lyon, dark costume and furs'; Mrs. S.' Lyon,' r/ale blue serge coat and-skirt,' and,black hat with touches of blue; Mrs. Williams, grey coat, skirt, and black hat; Miss Keuney, dark green cloth coat, and skirt; Mrs. Lennox, heliotrope coat and skirt; Miss Lennox, navy blue'coat and skirt faced with -green; Mrs. Vicars,• navy blue coat and skirt; Mrs. C. Wilson, dark blue costume witji furs; Mrs. A. De Castro,, amethyst .cloth costume trimmed '-with moire silk/, and hat to match; Mrs. J. Clarke,. brown cloth coat and skirt, and green hat; -Mrs. SieVwright, dark green silk; Miss Ruby Lyon, dark green costume. Others,"pre-, sent were: Mr. and Mrs Odlin, the Rev. W. A. and Mrs! Evans, Air. and- ' Mrs/ Pilcher, and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace. The bride's travelling- costume was of pale pink serge Russian coat, and with it she worc.bro.vn furs, and a brown hat lined with pink velvet. The bridegroom's , present to the bride was a pearl and turquoise .ring, to the chief bridesmaid, a pearl brooch, to Miss Madge Lyon,' a.garnet brooch, and to the little maid.an eiian.el pendant. .' .'. After the departure of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Lyon, the guests were entertained with several recitations and musical items,, which concluded a very pleasant afternoon. - - ' , .... '../.- • Social. A dance, arranged by a committee composed of Dr. Guun and Messrs.. J. London, R. .Morrison, AV. G. Groves, J. AVingate, and J. Hudson, takes place in the Temii Hall on Friday, June 24, and following the rule ot dances in the country, will iio.doubt.prpvq.to.be a most enjoyable, a (fair. Danes at Petono. A, delightful dance was given in the Victoria . Street . Hall, Petono,- last evening, by the Misses Allender, K. and M. Stempa, .and Cavcrhill. It is under- . stood that those dances will be given at intervals during the winter months.. After supper, songs were' contributed by Aliss Price and Air. F. A.- Mason. After attending the reception to'tho Governor yesterday afternoon, Sir. Joseph and. Lady Ward and Miss Ward, Sir William and Lady Steward, tho Hon. T. K. and Airs. Macdoiiald, Airs. Hales, Airs. Hamilton - Gilmer, Aliss Bauchop, Aliss Butts, and a number, ofothers went on to Airs. Scddon'.s, where they were entertained at afternoon tea, A Crcymoiitri Social. . The Greymouth District High School stair held their second .social on Friday (says our Greymouth correspondent), and, if possible, it was more enjoyable than't'ne, first. The weather was ideal, bo that the ballroom, as well as the cardroom, were-well patronised. Aliss Holder 'won the ladies' euchre prize,. Airs. Gittos being second, and . Mr. Gittos won the gentlemen's, whilst the booby prize was .awarded to Air. Daly. Among those present were Alesdames 'Kilgour, Benzoni, Baxter, Oke'y, Campbell, and Wicks, Alisses Kettle, Atoss,- Isdell, Duncan, Holder, Cabot, and White,' and Messrs. Kettle,' Bonzoni, Williams, Chalk, and Gittos. Obituary.' . News was' received in Palmcrs'ton on Monday of, the death ou June 19, at her residence, at Otakeho, of Airs. H. C. West, formerly of Aianawatu. 'Airs. West's maiden name was Emma Hartley, and she. was the oldest daughter of one of-the earliest settlers,in Aianawatu, namely, the late Stephen Charles Hartley and Diana Hartley, neo Howe, both of whom came out to Wellington in the early 'forties in ono of tho first four immigrant ships. Air. and Airs. Hart- ■ ley soon settled at Pohuctangi on the banks of, the Aianawatu River, Healths present .township of Shannon, and at that place tho late Mrs. West was
born, and lived till tho date of her marriage in or about- 1870' to MrHarry West, who was then settled further ni) the banks of the Manawatu River, "abreast of what is now called Linton, and who' is an older brother of Air. L. G. West, of this town. Air. and Airs. AVest have been dairy farming in Taranaki for many years, where her husband and a. large family of children and grandchildren' still survive her. The deceased lady was of a bright, cheerful disposition,' and bore her late years' illness with great fortitude. Airs. E.
