THE INDRADEVI.
Ouring tho past four days, the ladradevi has been in the public eye on account of tho sho was" slightly overdue at Auckland, from Liverpool direct. , Usually, vessels of tho Tyser Line come to Mow Zealand from London or Now York, via Australian ports, but occasionally one is dispatched from Liveijjol direct to New Zealand porta. On tiie present trip the Indradevi left Liverpool on April 17 with a large general cargo for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. Sho was reported as passing the Cape of Good flopo on May 17,. and then nothing more was heard of her until she arrived at Auckland at 8 a.m. on Tuesday last. Conversing with a "Star" reporter regarding the-voyage, Captain Wilkes said that after passing the Cape of Good Hope on Hay 17 the Indradovi encountered strong head winds and gales, with high seas, and sho had to bo stopped on several occasions to enable slight repairs to the engines to bo effected. Exceptionally bad weather was experienced off the Tasmanian coast, somewhat below tho parallel of Wellington, on Sunday week last. The storm appeared to be of a cyclonio nature, big seas rushing in on" tho vessel from all quarters. During the first part of tho storm tho vessel had an exciting battle with the elements, and was hovc-to for ten hours. After that the weather moderated, but a stron<* gale continued until four days later" when the weather cleared. The Indradevi was then within a couple of days' steaming of Caps Maria- Van Diemcn, and as the land hove in sight, delightful weather set in, and the run down the coast to Auckland was made in almost a. dead calm, with a summer sky overhead.
Tho Indradevi is a representative of the Tysor Lino, and is'owned by Mr. T. D. Hoyden, proprietor of . tho Indra Line, Liverpool—one of tho threo concerns amalgamated under the name of Tyser Liuc. She is a regular visitor .it Now Zealand ports. Captain AV. H. Wilks. who is- in command of tho Indradevi, was previously engaged in the New York-Japan service of tho Indra Line. This is his first trip in the Indradevi, 'his predecessor being Captain A. Ho!lingsworth, who remained in England to take charge of the Indriileina when Captain Trotter transfers to tho Hew steamer tndrnbarak.
