The exact number is. not blown yetj but there did not appear to-be any.falling away as compared with tho previous year. . Thero aro not so many -Tara■nakl people'as usual at the present show, however, and that is probably because Taranaki. itself has recently launched, two winter show ventures. X)ne has been held at New Plymouth, "and the. other is to take place at- Hawera next month. The weather broko to-day,'and ram. fell frequently; It is j still raining to-night, and'the prospects io'r to-morrow.are.not encouraging. ' The Dairy Show Conference was opened this morning, and it will bo con-tinued'to-morrow. The chief attraction at'the,-grounds was the annuab Rugby football match between tho Wanganui and the Te Aute Colleges, a. crowd of -about ' ten;, thousand witnessing the game; > . " . - ■ . . ' : , The poultry judging was carried out, ■this'morning,, and the cheese championship- . was ■ also ' announced. Special prizes were awarded 'as follows : —Silver - wyandotte, P; W. Brown (Foxton),- pullet; white wyandotte, C. J. Bridges (Aramako), duckling. FARMERS' BUTTER^ In tire class for farmers', fresh butter (not less than 31b.), tho first priiso was awarded to Miss J. G. Balsiffio, of Kairanga. Mrs. L. Pemberton,. of Ashburst, was second, and E. V. Brittain, of Inglowood,. third.V BUTTER CHAMPIONSHIP. Tho butter champions-hip of New Zealand was won by tho Taieri and Peninsula Dairy Company, with 93.39 points. Leppcrton was second, with 93.34 points, and Whenuakura- tlifrd with 9&\23 points. "•Some delay was Unfortunately caused Ai awarding some of 'tho butter prizes through certain books being made temporarily, unavailable to the. Dairy Commissioner, ivho'-did the judging. This hitch was caused by the .fact that the books mentioned had .been requisitioned 'im coamection with certain court proceedings. . ■ ' , ' CHEESE CHAMPIONSHIP. The cheese championship was decided on the following basis:—All competitors, wero required to enter in the two export classes, and the ■ championship -was awarded on the highest aggregate average scored in tho grading points'for export shipment during the season between' November '1, ■ 1909, and April 20, 1910, inclusive, together with points t?i- m the jading °f the show exhibit. Show exhibits scoring points will be counted in tho aggregate as.-one ( shipment; The championship - was awarded to Rongokokako, Ominii being second, and Featherston third.
