—a «• THEATRE ROYAL. There was again a large attendance at tho Theatre Royal last night, when the new vaudeville programme was given for the second time. That clover trio of musical and acrobatical clowns, Do, He, Mi, made mucu wholesome, mirth by their antics, and surprised everybody by tho facility which they showed in getting music" out of all sorts of unlikely-looking objects. The same trio were also highly amusing in their skit on a Spanish bull-fight. Tho clairvoyant seanco of Mora, assisted by Dr. Rowe, conjuror and comic patterer, was another notable feature of a bright and varied programme Tho entertainment will bo repeated, to-uight. THE KING'S THEATRE. There waa a large audience at theKing's Theatro last evening to witness, tho final performance of the present, week's sones of pictures. To-night an entirely new programme will be presented. Included in the new series will' be the dramatic studies: "The Twisted Trail," a powerful story by the American Biograph Company, illustrating the peril of condemnation on circumstantial evidence. In this picture the leading part is taken by that excellent actress, 3lks Dorothy Nicholson. "Tho Gipsy Hands," of special interest to Boy Scouts. This picture is produced from a story appearing in the "Boy's Friend," "The Mountain Inn" (coloured), by Mr. Z. Rollins; and "A Sister's Devotion." The scenic aid topical subjects, "From Marseilles to Sunny Algiers," a beautiful production, abounding in lovely scenery and interesting incidents. "London Town in Sorrow," "The Proclamation of King George V," and the' exclusive subject, "The First Aeroplano Flight in Australia," mado by Houdini at Digger's Rest, Victoria. Comedies have been well chosen, and will include "The Turn" (a comedy of tho Paris floods); "The Headless Man," "A Present for his Wife," "The Tec's Dream," and our old friend. "Foolshead" in a new creation entitled "Somersaults." New' incidental music and accompaniments will be played by the King's Theatre Orchestra. HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. Scenes in London at the time of the death of King Edward VII are the most impressive features in the current programme of moving pictures at His Majesty's Theatre. •' Other fine pictures of very great topical interest aro those of the proclamation of King George V in London. There will be an entirely new programme to-night, with the exception of the film showing the proclamation of King George V. ' "The Twisted Trail" is a Western story of love aud adventure, and is one of tho very best films the popular Biograph Company have ever produced. , "Across the Plains" is a prairie story of the early Western emigrants, teeming with exciting incidents, such as encounters with Indians, and is produced with the lavish attention to detail characteristic of the Selig Company. "The Irish Boy" is a tale of. the various adventures of a son.of Erin, who emigrates to America, and marries the boss's daughter, and other notable films are "Lieutenant Rose and the Foreign Spy," "Halley's Comet," "Through Gipsy Hands," "From Marseilles to Sunny Algiers," and the comic section is headed by oui old friend, "Foolshead," who goes in for gymnastics. MADAME CARRENO. An event of great importance to the music lovers of Wellington is the notification of the opening of the box plans at the Dresden for the first three concerts of .-the Carreno season at the "Opera' House:' It is'not every day that we have in our midst an artist of such assured rank as is Carreno, now in the prime of her.powers, and the privilege of hearing this world-famous pianist, whose playing is a charming blend of feminine delicacy, poetic insight, and masculine intellectualism in equal degrees, is gratefully acknowledged. STAR PICTURES.' Another enthusiastic audience gathered at St. Thomas's Schoolroom last evening, when the new programme of the Star Pictures was presented for the second time. Some of the scenic films, notably "Volcanoes in Oceana," and "Scenes' in Scutari," are exceptionally interesting, and tho comic, dramatic, and industrial screenings go to make up an excellent whole." The programme will he repeated this evening. ' A HUMOROUS RECITAL. A. humorous recital by the Rev. Archibald E. Hunt was the-foundation on which, a most enjoyable evening's entertainment was laid at a gathering held last evening under the auspices of the Courtenay Place Congregational Church Social Institute. Mr. Hunt kept the audience in a simmer of laughter with his funny and well-told stories, which included "Tho Passing of Thomas," "Falstaff on Honour," "The Quarrel," "The v ßishop and the Caterpillar," "Jerry 'bim's Turkish Bath," and "A Night With a Baby." During the evening Miss V. Lewis played a piano solo, "TaranteDe," and Mr. T. K. Thomson played a flute solo, "Rye Bloom.". Both items were heartily applauded. Songs were given by Mr. S. Meyer, "Thoughts and Tears," Mrs: F. Cornet, "Roses," and Mr. Hlingworth, "An Evening Song." HUTT AND PETONE NEWS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) —:—j ■ There was only a fair attendance at the Church of England Men's Society meeting, held at Petpne on Monday evening. Mr. E. G. House" occupied the chair, and the Rev. J. "Jones gave an interesting address, taking for his subject, "The Exodus." In the ' ensuing discussion the Kev. J. D. Eussell and Messrs. Eodgers, Lee, Wilkerson, and Hunt took part, and Mr. Jones made an effective reply. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker. At a meeting of the Petoue West School Bazaar Committee, it was announced that the .Minister bad granted permission to hold an art union and rallies in connection with the bazaar. Tho railway file brigade signified their intention of taking part' in the procession in connection with the function, it was decided to ask the new Governor, Lord Islington, to open the bazaar, and (hat tho Ministor for Education, the member for the district, the Mayor, and borough councillors be also invited to attend. The quarterly meeting of tho Star of Pctone, No. 02, Independent Order of liechabites was held last evening in the Central nail, Sydney Street. Tho tent was visited bv district officers Bro. Bash, 1'.D.1t.C.K,; Bro. Gaudin, P.D.H.C.R.; Bro. Ward, P.C.8.; Bro. Fathers, district sccrctarv of Wellington; and Bro. M'Dennott, P.D.C.E., of Auckland. Threo now members were initiated,- and the new ritual was used for the first time. Two propositions were received for membership. Contributions received amounted to .£35 and expenditure .022 Cs. Sd. It was resolved, on the invitation of tho district secretary, to attend the welcome to the now Governor. Bro. Fathers addressed the tent on the now ritual, and also gave sonic information in regard to the visit of 11. C.R. Bro. Phillipson and P.H.C.R. Bro. Churchill, of England, who are to visit tho Dominion in the interests of the Order of lieebabites. Addresses were also delivered by tho visitors, and the tent was closed iu duo form. The D.I.C. notify by advertisement in this issue that their premises'- will l )e closed from 1 p..in.. .until 3 pju.. to-day.
