BARRAUD AND ABRAHAM, LTD.

[Published n? Abrangeuent.] This old-established and. well-known firm make an especially interesting display as agents for the "Dominion" Milking Machines and Pitt Oil Engines. This combination is probably tho most popular in the market, a fact which-is exemplified by the great number of out- • fits which are. .. now being installed throughout the Dominion. Tho chief features of tho • "Dominion" /. Milker are:—(l) That feit is a pressure milker, in' the most literal and triitlrful acceptance of the term, the amount of vacuum required to operate them being lower than any milker yet inveiited. In fact, the only vacuum needed in working the "Dominion" is just sufficient to hold the weight of tho pulsator on the teats. Tho danger of over-milking is, therefore, absolutely non-existent, from the tact that when the milk is extracted, the p.ulsalor iis inoperative; but as loug as milk remains in tho udder the pressure.action ■—which'is an exact imitation of handsmilking—continues to extract it, and ■ ijt is claimed that there is less handstrippiug required after, tho "Dominion" rthan with any machine milker in the world. (2) The pressure is regulated 4o suit the varying conditions of each cow. The fact that some cows are* in land-milking, "hard milkers'' and some easy, is. as carefully . adjusted, automatically, with the '.'Dominion" Milkoi, as by band. In other raacbiiieß. & uniform suction, or vacuum, is maintained throughout tho whole herd—a condition manifestly .injurious to the "easy" milkers. In fact,' tho pressure, or suction, required frequently varies jn tli3 four "quarters" of one udder, <a difficulty which is overcome by tho sensitive adjustment of pressure obtainable only in the "Dominion"'Milking Machine. ;. Single cans are used, in other words, one cow, one can. The advantages claimed .by this system are that, for , i-tho purpose, of regularly testing the different cows of the herd, the matter • is simple. Further, ; that as; no two . cows take exactly the same time in milking, there is','bo waste.,time ir ,with. the single-can system, whereas with '• tho double-can system one set of ma'chines' is invariably, idle.for a portion ■ of the time. '■.■'"■'.," Unusual interest- was manifested in these machines, and the firm reports a very healthy demand for these plants, several orders being booked for extensive installations. A "Dominion" milking outfit is in daily operation in the "Wereroa State Farm, Levin, and has ■been inspected by'a largo number of ■interested dairymen from all parts of the Dominion. The foregoing machines were operated by a Pitt.oil engine, which is one- of Britain's latest and best, productions. These engines can be supplied in any size or style, to use either kerosene or benzine as fuel,, and as ah indication of. the confidence which the New Zealand agents have in them, they (Booth, Macdonald and Co., Ltd) are landing 56 .Pitt"engines during July and August.Exhibited in the same stand were samplo rolls of Roko edge belting, also samples of; Karmal packing,, for which Barraud and Abraham, Ltd. are. sojc Js T ew Zealand agents. The advantages claimed for the Roko edge belting aro its durability, non-slipping qualities, and extra weight, a valuable feature for ouWoor work where wind often blows a belt about'. Numerous local testimonials were shown commending both above lines. '•.-.'.
