IMMIGRATION.
CANADA'S FIVE-POUND LIMIT. MANUFACTURERS PROTEST. . By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Ree. Juno 20, 9.20 p.m.) Montreal, Juno 20. The new immigration regulations prohibiting tho landing ill Canada of all adult immigrants, other than domestic servants, men proceeding to work on farms, or persons going to join relations, who do not have .£5 in tlieir possession, liavo been discussed by tho Manufacturers' Association. The association has forwarded to the Prime Minister, Sir Wilfrid Lanrier, a resolution supporting the present regulations in so far as they contribute to tho exclusion of undesirables. It is urged, however, that, as it is customary to waive the money qualification in tho case of farm labourers and domestics, a similar waiver ought to be granted in tho case of mechanics and others bringing delinito assurances of stoady employment from reputable firms. [Tho new immigation regulations were suddenly brought into operation at t.ho end of March, without any previous notice. Previously emigrants might enter without being in possession of 4:5, provided these werb going to definite employment.]
