'.. ; v , The seventeenth- annual report of the Newtown Bowling Club states that th? - ciub continues to progress, though it has not : Been so fortunate during tho past seasoii '.as previously in inter-club conipetitions. The good pluy of Wylje's rillk .id the' Northern Association's tourna-ment-is; mentioned, and the win of the Brackenridgo brothers in the championship pairs, Eleven rinks from this club competed in the New "Year Centre tournament, and the final issue lay between two -v.- of them, viz., Messrs. A. G. Warwick, A. B. Duff, A. J. Pollock' and W. Wylio (skip), , and Messrs. J; Grant, G. Noble, J. J. Webb, and T. S. X s owell (skip), tho . former rink winning in the play-off. A noticeable feature of this tpurnaniGDt was that this ciub won three, sections'out of six. In the senior pemiauts competition tho club was successful in winning four games-, out of seven; the Juniors, however, wero only put out of tho junior / i; • pennant in the last game. l In the inter- . cluV trophy games, in the earlier part ' club , was tho holder ?? i.u Pins," also the "Edwin leathers" for a considerablo period. Mr S H Underwood won the matchbox and 'Mr' M Glintock the pipe. During the year 13 new members joined the club, 10 resigned, and two were written off The membership at the end of the year was 107. The assets exceed liabilities bv .£977 . - 13s. 5d., and the inlue of the club's nro- . perty is ,£l7ra. The attendance at di rectors' meetings were: 3. Martin (urcsi- ■ dent), 12; -T. M'Leaii (vice-president) litT. Bland, 11; J. Pollock, 127 T. S Powell' 10; A. Campbell, 8; G. E. Prince, J3; G* , Scott, 13; J. W. Salmon, 11. All the directors' retire, but aro eligible for roelection without notice. The directors are of opinion that some effort should bo made to form a sinking fund lor tho purpose of reducing the liabilities of the Club.
