THE BURDEN OF RATES.
BOWLEGS' GRIEVANCE. "Members will notice from the balancfc" sheet (says the annual report of the Newtown Bowling Club) that a large amount is annually paid for municipal rates. This has become a heavy drain on tie finances of tho club. Your directors think thu timo has arrived when combined action should be taken by all bowling associations in the Dominion to represent to the Government the heavy burden of rates which the clubs have to bear, and to ask for relief. Tour directors trusl that the incoming board will bring tins important question before the Northern Bowling Association, in order that joint action may be taken by it and the NewZealand Bowling Association in an effort to obtain the desired relief." This is an. old grievance of the lecal bowling clubs, who contend that they should not be so heavily taxed when the City Council goes to great expense to provide free grounds for other sports.
