Tlio total amount of butter manufactured by the company during May was 23,9101b5. The annual meeting of tlio Rongotea Horticultural Society held at Rongotea on Thursday evening. The sec-, retary's report dealt very fully with the operations of the society for the year. The receipts, as disclosed by the bal-anoo-sheet, were £119 2s. Gd., and the expenditure £102 Is. Id., leaving a credit balance of £17 Is. sd. Tho total assets showed ail excess of £21 7s. 2d. over the liabilities. The membership totals 102. Tho following oilicors wero elected:—Patron, Mr. .E. Mr. Wilson. OTAKI. The local storekoeping business, successfully carried on by Mr. C. T. Russell for many years, lias been purchased by Mr. A. E. Anderson, of the staff of -Messrs. Byron lirown, Ltd. Mr. Russell's future movements are undecided, but, before arranging anything definite, lie will tako a- well-earned holiday. Mr. J. L. Parrant has left Otaki for Christ-church, his absence being a temporary one for health purposes. RANCATAUA. At a public meeting on Thursday evening, a proposal to suggest to tho Government to make a trial of a Stateeontrollcd hotel at Rangataua, was carried. Tho Settlers' Association Committee wore appointed to canvass tho .district and form a scheme with a view to taking Section IS), Block 3, under tho Libraries and Jiechanrjcs' instituto Act for tho purpose of building a town hall. Tho Rangataua scenic route to Mount Ruapohu showed a credit balance of £5 13s. 6cl. Dospito tho bad 'weather tho' trains aj-o running pretty well up to time.
