(By TelocraDh—Press Association.) ♦ SUPREME COURT SITTINGS. MANAGER RECOVERS DAMAGES. Palmerston North, Jueo 16. At the Supreme Court to-day, Mr. Duncan, lately manager of the Glen Oroua Dairy Factory was granted £247 10s. damages against the company for wrongful dismissal. . Crispianus Robert claimed £152 10s. from Walter Signal, of Jlarton, in respect to damages caused by the collision, of defendant's motor-cav with plaintiff's house. Plaintiff claimed that the accident was duo to defendant's negligence. The evidence was conflicting, hut his Honour, Mr. Justice Cooper, gave judgment for plaintiff for £52 10s.
ALLEGED JEWELLERY THEFTS.
THE SUSPECT'S EXPLANATION Auckland, June 16. Edward John Roberts, a middle-aged man, was remanded to-day on a ohairge of having stolen jewellery of the value of £600 from Dr.. Pa.rkes's residence, arid fo the value of £40 from Miss Wrigley. It is stated that accused pawned isomo arti,cl<?s under an assumed name. His own explanation, to the police was tha't he found them in the Domain,

A young woman—Mary .JosephiiM Malam, alias Josephine Marcella Morse . —was.before the Court to-day upon, acharge of bigamy, in that, being married to.Wm. Henry Malani, sho did go through a form of marriage with Percy Bowering Morse. She was remanded to appear at Eotorua on June 22.
CAPSIZE OF A SCOW
Auckland, June 16, The scow Hauturu capsized during a squall in the harbour yesterday. Captain Draffin and one of tlio crew got underneath ihe vessel, But climbed on.. the bottom, where they were joined by a third man. All were- ultimately rescued by a boat from the shore. ' •

'Mr. Laracy, secretary of the New Zealand-Shearers and Woolshed Employees' Association, now on. his way south, told a reporter he had formed a branch at Gisbc-rne, with a membexsliip comprising seventy Maoris. These unanimously resolved'not to work for; less than £1 per 100 and rations. College. . RECASTING EDUCATION DISTRICTS. Palmerston, June 16. At a conference of members of the Chamber of Commerce, school committees, and district representatives of tho.Wanganui Education Board to-night, a resolution was carried:-"That the Government be asked to take into consideration the" advisability of recasting the education districts of the-North Island, with a view to increasing their efficiency and reducing their expenditure, and that the Education Board of Wanganui be asked ■ to place the question beiore the educational conference for discussion and suggestion." ' ~" ■ SKELETON FOUND. Foxton, June 16. While Mr. Rockell was excavating a sandhill on the roadside in front of his property in Thynne Street this morning he came upon the skeleton of a human being about two feet below the surface. The skeleton, which was in a sitting positron, -with'the knees near the skuH and the arms to the head,. occupied a very small space. From appearances it had remained there many years. No remains of clothinj were discovered. The skeleton is that of a female, probably a ilaori, SERIOUS CHARGE. \ : InvercargiH, Juno 16. In the Police Court, Bert M'Quin, a young man, was committed for trcal on a. charge of violently .assaulting a young woman, with intent to, commit a serious offence. Bail was allowed in two sureties of J250 each. POWELKA'S SENTENCE. Greymouth, June 16,. Tho executive of th& West Coast Labour Union last -night empl'-ntically protested against jMr. Justice Cooper's sentence on Powolka, and has issued petition forms to sub-unions for signature.
