GreensladeV M.P. for'" Wai- . kato, is on a visit to Wellington. ■-' The death occurred in Wellington on 'Thursday of' Captain Philip Jenkins, an r bld Wellington resident, formerly associated with the coastwise trade out of this port. The deceased, who was •"80 years of age, was born in Wales; and . went to sea as a boy. ,For some years' he was master and owner of.'the schooner, Kate, trading to Pqsrton, Rangitikei, Patea, and Wanganui. His brother, the lato Mr. John Jenkins, who was afterwards signalman at the Wanganui' Heads, was mate of the schooner, and Captain Shilling, of the Harbour Board's pilot staff, was a member of- the crew. Captain Jenkins was subsequently harbourmaster and pilot at Foxton. The funeral is to leave his residence at 11.30 a.m. to-day. ■• i.'Mr. T. Cole, who is leaving The Dominion publishing staff to take up another position in the city, was presented with a small token of regard yesterday by members of the commercial and publishing staffs, v Mr. James Wood, Government Printer at Papiia, left Wellington for ' Sydney en route to Port Moresby yesterday. Mr. Tom Pollard, who is well known throughout New Zealand, has decided to permanently settle in Greymouth, whero he will run vaudeville and picture entertainments. • - Detective Quartermain, who has fp-r some years been attached to tho headquarters staff, has been transferred to Auckland, whore ho mil join the ranks of the detective staff; a,nd Acting-Do-teotivo Mason, of Auckland, has been transferred to Wellington. ■Chief Detective Broberg has been confined to his home for the past week by an attack of influenza. Mr. Broberg je now on the way to recovery. The deceased, in his early Gays, saw considerable service in the Navy, especially in connection with tho transportation of tlroops to the Crimea. .-' Mr. A.
