THE QUEEN'S STATUR.
A SUGGESTION. Somo weeks ago (writes "Civis") the City Council, on tho motion of Councillor Fletcher, decided that the Queen's Statue, the line bronze from the studio of Alfred Drury, R.A., now standing in tho space before the General Post Office, should bo removed to a nioro suitable site. As nothing has appeared in tho press auent the now site, might I be allowed to suggest one. Recently great improvements have been made to tho reserve that forms tho dividing line between Kent and Cambridge Terraces. Tho lower or northern half has been nicely grassed on , either side, of a broad central walk, and around the outer edges tho "palms are thriving wonderfully. At present, however, there is nothing to arrest the eye or attract in this grass-flanked walk. I would suggest that the statue be reerected at the northern extremity of the reserve—at tho junction of Cambridge Terrace with Courtcnay Place— set facing tho north. The sito has several advantages—there is a great open square in front extending as far down Clyde Quay as tho school, tho statue would be visible for the entire length of Kent and Cambridge Terraces —over half a mile—and as it would bo within 50 yards of the busiest tramway stopping-place in the city, it would be seen by a thousand people to every one who would suo it were it put away in the Botanical Gardens, Nowtowii Park, or on Mout Cook (Buckle Street). Tho trams to Island Bay, Constable Street, Miramar, Seatoun, Lyall Bay, Kilbirnie, and Oriental Bay pass tho site every two or three minutes, yet it is packed by an ample stretch of green sward which would give the bronze figure a proper setting.
