The South Island is stated to have been remarkably free from stock disease this season, particularly in Otngo and Southland, where less disease lias l>een reported than for some seasons past. This has been due to the dryness of the season in the south, which was in marked contrast to the moist summer in this island with its accompaniment of . stock troubles and insect pests. , Reports from Taranaki states,that there is an epidemic of colds and coughs among liorses in several districts, and one or two losses are recorded*
