DAIRY PRODUCE SHIPMENT.

: COEINTHIC'S CAItGO. The Coriirthic yesterday sailed for London with a cargo of 331 boxes of butter and 5977 crates of cheese. The shipment .Was made up as follows:— Butter. Cheese. Boxes. Crates. . " Patea 19 2015 ■Wellington — 1215 Bluff .- — 1429 Dunedin — 172 Lyttelton — 110 .'334 5977 The boat which left on the corrospond;ing date of last year (the Tainui) took : <337 crates of cheese. Periodically in the slack season Tara- ! naki farmers turn an eye to the lower- ; priccd land in tho north and east of this island. Recently a small party from the visited the north of Ancldand. They travelled by conveyance where there was no rail, and managed during their etay to see a gTeat deal of the country. Mr. Jas. Smith, of Otakeho, was one of the party, and in conversation said lo a "Hawera Star" representative that taking it all round lie was. not favourably impressed, though naturally ho saw Rome good land. One part in particular, of which he thought a good deal, was the Eapu Swamp, wliich is being drained by the Government. The methods used appear to him to be extremely good, .utilising to the full all tho expenditure made. But lif there is any land up in the North of Auckland to compare with the best of Taranaki he did not come across it. . The South Island is stated to have been remarkably free from stock disease this season, particularly in Otngo and Southland, where less disease lias l>een reported than for some seasons past. This has been due to the dryness of the season in the south, which was in marked contrast to the moist summer in this island with its accompaniment of . stock troubles and insect pests. , Reports from Taranaki states,that there is an epidemic of colds and coughs among liorses in several districts, and one or two losses are recorded*
