South-westerly winds, strong to gale, have been experienced generally, with cold and changeable weather. Tho winds have moderated to-day in sonic parts, and tho barometer, which ror-e during the night, has been unsteady, but made little movement to-day. Present indications arc for cold and stormy weather, high southerly winds probably prevailing, and the barometer rising "everywhere. Meteorological conditions arc very unsettled on the Tasman Sea ami in the Southern Pacific. D. C. BATES. llctoorolocicnl GlDce. June 10, 1910.
"I don't believe in examining Sunday school scholars," declared the Kev. 11. S. D. I'ortuß, <>f Muminmdi, at tho recent meeting of the. Newcastle (New South Wales) Synod, "because the present system of Sunday school work is an absolute failure. As a result of Sunday school instruction, I might give the Synod the following reply, received to a. question at a rccont examination: —'Jordan was a prophet and married Nanareth. The.v went across tho sea to Gallileo and became Kings in America. | Saul said that Moses married Solomon, ami slie was the best wife .ho ever had.'" The Synod laughed, and the reverend gentleman added ■ seriously, "Ail the same, it's a fact." j
