POLLING FOR AUCKLAND EAST. MR. MYERS RETURNED. AN ABSOLUTE MAJORITY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, June 16. The by-election for Auckland East took ' place to-day, and resulted as follows:— A. it. Informal 38 j Mr. Myers having secured an absolute | majority was, duly declared returned. There were 8370 names on the electoral roll. Mr. Arthur Millziner Myers, the new Parliamentary representative tor Auckland East, is an Australian by birth, and" was born at Ballarat in 1867. He was educated at the public school and later at Wellington College. When 16 he entered the employ of Mr. Ehrenfried (his uncle). He later became manager of the Auckland branch of his uncle's business, an'd till 1896 was actively asso* ! ciated with the firm. On its amalgama/tion with Brown, Campbell, and Co.; Mr. Myers became managing director.He has been a prominent figure on the. directorates of public companies—New Zealand Insurance Co., His Majesty's ; Arcade and Theatre Co., and Auckland Gae Co. In 1597 he was made a justice of tlie peace, and in the same j'ear joined the ; volunteer force (he is now posted on the ■ active list unattached, with the Tank .of major). Football, swimming, rowing, ■ bowling,; and other sports have claimed, a considerable portion of his interest and patronage. His term of office as Mayor of Auckland was conspicuous for the inception of several .important undertakings, pushed forward with charaoteris-' tic vigour.
