A GIRL SHOT DEAD.
STREET TRAGEDY. JEALOUSY SUPPOSED TO BE THE CAUSE. By Toleemufc-Press Asaociation-Copyrlcttt Brisbane, June 16. A tragedy occurred ill a street in the centre of Rockhampton in the presence of a large number of people who were assembling for a school prize-day. • A well-known amateur jockey named Davis fired a revolver at a man named Hett, who was standing talking to friends in a buggy. Davis then went up to the buggy and fired.a shot into the back of Emily Salisbury, aged twenty-three. Afterwards he rushed round to the front of the trap, and fired two more shots into the girl's breast, and killed her. Detective Seymour rushed at Davis, who attempted to ■ fire on the officer, but the weapon missed fire, and the man was arrested. Hqtt is badly wpunded.- Jealousy is tho supposed cause of the crime.
