BOXING.
JOHNSON-JEFFRIES FIGHT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Rec. Juno 16, 9.50 p.m.) - San Francisco, June 16. Governor Gillett, of California, states that prize-fights are criminal. Sparring .exhibitions are lawful if they come to a conclusion. He describes a prize-fight as a contest when there is an expectation of reward coupled with tho infliction of some degree of bodily harm. Tex Rickard, a promoter, replied that if Governor Gillett opposes, he hopes to construct an arena, and immediately take the fight to Salt Lake City or one of the Nevada cities, The principals havo agreed to sell the moving pictures for JBO.ODO, the fighters taking ,£IO,OOO apiece, and Rickard antl Gleason JBIO,OOO. Rickard asserts that the buyers have not stipulated for tho length of the matoli. Tho .£30,000 will be paid if it' is only a single round.
